At B&A Dairies, we are proud to be part of an industry that is aware of how small changes to everyday life can make a huge difference to our environment.
As well as our electric vehicles, the re-useable glass bottle has been a major factor in the success of the traditional milk service over the years.
For the many years that the service has been available, it is surprising how the values that made the deliveries a success, can now have a place in the modern day.
Your milkman has seen a large increase in deliveries of plastic ‘non returnable cartons’ over recent years. The traditional ‘rinse and return’ glass bottle has kept its place within the service, but the plastic cartons are becoming ever more prominent.
Did you know?
- We produce and use 20 times more plastic today than we did 50 years ago.
- One tonne of plastic is equivalent to 20,000 two-litre drinks bottles.
- Most plastics are non-degradable, which means they could take hundreds, or even thousands, of years to break down when they are landfilled.
- Plastics production requires significant quantities of natural resources, primarily fossil fuels. It is estimated that 4% of the world’s annual oil production is used for plastic production.
At B&A, we are making people aware of these issues and hoping that customers that currently buy their milk in the Plastic cartons, will consider returning to the glass bottle. The glass bottle can re-used upto 40 times, and after its useful life, will then be recycled.
Therefore, our message is.... Switch to glass, and help us to help the environment.
